Allāh, the Most High Says: “And do not walk upon the earth arrogantly. Indeed, you
will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.”
[Qurʾān 17:37].
The Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No one who has a weight of mustard seed of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.” One of the most praiseworthy characteristics emphasized in Islām is humility - a virtue that is both a sign of true faith and a protection against the spiritual disease of arrogance. Humility is not merely a moral choice; it is a reflection of the believer’s awareness of his position before Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, and his recognition of Allāh’s Supreme Majesty. Arrogance on the other hand is a trait condemned repeatedly in the Qurʾān and Sunnah, for it leads to injustice, mistreatment of others, and a false sense of superiority. This work aims to explore the significance of humility and its manifestation in various aspects of a Muslim’s life: in their dealings with others, in their speech, in their clothing, and even in the way they walk upon the earth. It also seeks to address the importance of shunning fame and recognition, for the true believer strives to be known to Allāh, not to the people.
