Having been set free by Abu Bakr, one of the close friends of the Prophet, Bilal had other things to look forward to. He was named the first muezzin by the very Prophet Muhammad which was not only prestigious but it entailed a great amount of trust that the Prophet placed in him. Being able to read the niyaz smoothly, let alone as soulfully as Bilal, was felt to be a powerful, unifying force by the infant Muslim congregation out in the desert. Muyzin is not only a singing job that establishes him as a gifted singer but also defines his religiosity in the early Islamic society.
